Full Dentures

For when all the teeth in a jaw are gone.

Why You May Need a Full Denture in Bundoora

A full denture is used when all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or both, are missing. It restores chewing and speech, and it supports the lips and cheeks by holding the space between nose, mouth and chin. Full dentures are usually made from acrylic and shaped around your own face.

How yours is made

Everything happens in our own laboratory at 1254 Plenty Rd. Your denture is not couriered to a production lab in another suburb, so the person who takes your impressions is the person who builds it and adjusts it later. The stage most people remember is the try-in: before anything is finished you see the teeth set in wax, in your own mouth, and you can ask for the shape, shade or how much they show to be changed.

What to expect

New dentures take getting used to. In the first weeks it is normal to notice them when you speak and to get the occasional sore spot where the base presses. Sore spots are the reason adjustment visits are built into the process, so ring us and come in. Over the years your gums change shape while the denture does not, so a full denture needs relining periodically and eventually replacing.

If teeth still need to come out

Extractions are done by a dentist or oral surgeon, not by us. If you would rather not go without teeth while your gums heal, ask about immediate dentures, which are made beforehand and fitted on the day the teeth are removed.

We accept VDS and DVA, and most major health funds. Ask us what applies to you.
