Immediate Dentures

Fitted the same day your teeth come out.

How an Immediate Denture Supports Healing and Function

An immediate denture is fitted straight after extraction so you do not go without teeth while you heal. It fills the gap, supports the lips and cheeks, and gives you time to decide on a long-term option. Because it has to exist before the teeth come out, the impressions and the making all happen while you still have them.

It is a transitional appliance

This is worth being clear about before you decide. Nobody can take an impression of a gum that has not healed yet, so the denture is made to fit the mouth you have today, and the mouth changes considerably in the months after extractions. The fit will loosen as you heal, it should be expected to need relining in that period, and a definitive denture is usually made once things have settled. Plan for it as a stage with its own cost.

The first days

Your gums have just had surgery, so tenderness and swelling in the first days are normal. Follow the aftercare instructions from whoever performed the extractions, including their advice on whether to leave the denture in overnight. Expect soft food to begin with, and expect to come back for adjustments.

Who takes the teeth out

Extractions are performed by a dentist or oral surgeon, not by us. We make and fit the denture and coordinate the timing with them, so it is ready on the day. If extractions are already booked, ring us early: the denture has to be made first.

We accept VDS and DVA, and most major health funds. Ask us what applies to you.
